.: eBay - What is that?

If you are one of the few people who haven't heard of eBay then I will give a quick description of what it is...

eBay started as an online auction site which has become popular all over the world. In eBay's own words it is "eBay - The World's Online Marketplace". In the UK (ebay.co.uk) there are more than 3 million listings at one time, and has an audience of almost 15 million.

You can probably buy almost anything on eBay, why not take a look and find out.... ebay.co.uk ... for Mobile Phones, DVD players, cars, plant pots, clothes, furniture, paper, ink, etc, etc. Have a look at my quick buying guide further down this page.

As well as buying there are a lot of people selling things on eBay. You could be one of the millions of sellers. So why not turn that thing you haven't used for a year into some cash. Checkout my quick quide to selling on eBay, below.

.: Buying on eBay

When it comes to buying on eBay the process is quite easy. Items are usually either a Buy It Now type auction, where there is a fixed price and the purchase happens immediately. The other format is a Auction format, where you place a bid, along with other people who also bid. At a pre-defined time the auction finishes and the highest bidder is the winner of the item.

Winning an auction can be a tricky process with people placing bids in the final few seconds before the auction closes. There are some useful tools out there to help you ensure a win on an auction.

.: Auction Sniper

Auction Sniper is a site which will bid on your behalf at a period of time (specified by you) before the auction closes. So you can put in a bid 5 seconds before the close at the amount you want. You can sign up for Auction Sniper by following the link AuctionSniper.com

.: PayPal

Once you have won an item on eBay then you obviously have to pay the seller for your item. The easiest way is to use PayPal, this is a good way to pay and offers protection and securtity to both buyers and sellers.

Checkout PayPal at www.paypal.co.uk

.: Selling on eBay

I am quite often selling things on eBay, usually things we no longer need at home. Sometimes I am selling other things, usually brand new. Check out the section below

.: Delivering your eBay sold items

So once you have sold an item on eBay it needs to be delivered to the buyer. Quite often the buyer doesn't live around the corner, so the most common way to send the item is by Royal Mail.

Royal Mail is good for delivering smaller items, but when it comes to larger or heavier items it is quite often cheaper to use a courier service. I quite often use Parcel2Go.com, their rates start from £5.99+VAT. They also collect from wherever you want, so no carrying it to the post office.
